Clean Wool Carpet
Keeping your carpets clean should not be a nearly impossible task. Many carpet fibers will hold up well to regular vacuuming and spot cleaning when needed while others may require professional shampooing regularly in order to keep them looking fresh and clean. When it comes to carpet materials, you can actually clean wool carpet much easier than many other materials on the market today. Wool carpet is an excellent choice for those who have allergies because it is naturally hypoallergenic. It cleans easily and will remain looking new for many years with regular vacuuming and spot cleaning.
Vacuuming
Vacuuming is essential in keeping your wool carpeting clean. You should strive to vacuum at least once per week in order to prevent dirt from embedding into the carpet fibers. Vacuums with rotating brushes are best and you should keep it on the highest floor setting possible to allow the brushes to just touch the top of the carpet. You can sprinkle carpet cleaning powders or deodorizers to help loosen dirt and give you a fresh aroma as well if you wish.
Spot Treatments
When attempting to clean wool carpet, spots can often be frustrating and difficult to remove if left too long. It is important that you try to lift spills as soon as possible, preferably before liquids have the chance to dry. If you do have spots that have dried in, spray them with a stain remover made specifically for carpet treatments. Allow the solution to soak into the carpet fibers. This normally takes no more than ten to fifteen minutes or so. Once the solution has penetrated the carpet fibers you can use a soft, clean cloth or dampened paper towels to pull the stain out. Simply apply pressure to the stain without rubbing. Deep cleaning carpet shampooers and smaller handheld models can also be very helpful in removing stains without damaging carpet fibers. If the stain is particularly stubborn you can purchase deep cleaning foam carpet sprays that are safe for wool carpeting. Spray the stain and work the solution into the carpeting fibers with a soft cleaning brush. Be careful not to apply too much pressure or to scrub the spot as this can damage the wool carpet. Allow the foam to dry completely and then simply remove with a carpet shampooer or a vacuum.
Deep Cleaning
Again, spot treating and vacuuming are essential in keeping a clean wool carpet in your home or office. When necessary, you can hire a professional carpet cleaner or rent a commercial carpet cleaning machine in order to remove high traffic stains and generally refresh your carpeting. If you are using solution that comes with a specific machine, be sure to check and see if the solution is safe for wool carpets. There are a number of detergents and cleaners that are specifically designed to protect wool when cleaning and many of these can be used in carpet cleaners as well. Woolite is an excellent choice, particularly for spot treating stains. Simply mix a bit of the detergent in some warm water in a spray bottle and use it whenever you have spills to keep your wool carpet looking fresh and new.
